Zadok Is Moving!

Zadok Jewelers is thrilled to announce the upcoming construction of their new mixed-use development in Uptown Houston. The 1.65-acre lot, which used to house a famed tony restauranteur, will soon be home to the newest gem on Post Oak Blvd. The five-story 112,000 square-foot complex was designed by the nationally-acclaimed Michael Hsu office of architecture and will feature native Texas cut stone as well as walls of sleek glass. With a strong focus on visual appeal, each of the ground level storefronts will be outfitted with different materials to add texture to the building and make it more approachable. The Zadok family looks forward to soon doubling its store space, welcoming in two restaurants, and housing 68,000 square feet of boutique offices at their new address – 1801 Post Oak Blvd.

Post Oak Development Announcement:

HOUSTON’S ZADOK FAMILY UNVEILS ITS NEWEST GEM; ACCLAIMED MULTIGENERATIONAL JEWELER TO BRING GLAM ADDITION TO UPTOWN WITH MICHAEL HSU DESIGNED MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT

Construction on 112,000-Square-Foot Project with Retail, Office and Restaurant Space Begins August.

HOUSTON, TX – May 23, 2019 – At the same “tony” Uptown Houston address – 1801 Post Oak Blvd. – where a famed restauranteur previously welcomed local and visiting glitterati for decades, creating a culinary bookend to The Galleria, another landmark Post Oak business is preparing to refashion the approximately 1.65-acre slice of the newly rejuvenated Boulevard for future generations.

Zadok Jewelers®, opened by Helene and Dror Zadok in 1976, which has reigned supreme as the district’s go-to jewelers next door at 1749 Post Oak Blvd., will soon realize a longtime dream of owning its own showplace on the sought-after street. This month, site work begins in preparation for a new mixed-use development – a signature destination and home for the store – targeting LEED Silver certification. The five-story, 112,000-square-foot endeavor will harness the design and placemaking expertise of the Texas-based and nationally-acclaimed Michael Hsu Office of Architecture.

The project will occupy Gerald Hines’ former Post Oak Row strip center, which the Zadok family quietly acquired directly from the legendary developer in 2011. Years and numerous renditions in the making, it fulfills the Zadok family’s wish of creating a legacy property for future generations and for the neighborhood. All three Zadok sons, Jonathan, Segev, and Gilad, are G.I.A. Graduate Gemologists and, since joining the business, have propelled its growth into what is the largest family run business of its kind in the city.

Groundbreaking is slated to begin this August, followed by a turnover to tenants for buildout in the fourth quarter of 2020.

According to Dror Zadok, “Since purchasing this prime parcel, we’ve carefully considered numerous partnership opportunities ranging from luxury hotels to office towers and also weighed many of our own ideas for what this site should be. We’re so happy to have made the decision to retain full ownership and creative control and also to be collaborating with such an incredible team at Hsu. We believe the scale and quality are very much in keeping with this stretch of Post Oak Blvd and truly complement the world-class neighborhood that Uptown Houston has become.”

Taking full advantage of Uptown’s new 15-foot setbacks, the Hsu design embraces Post Oak Blvd., creating strong pedestrian connectivity to its reimagined, tree-framed sidewalks and soon-to-debut transit lane. It also hides parking within its multi-faceted façade.

At street level, a 26-foot-high drive-thru arcade will be flanked on one side by a bi-level, 26,000-square-foot Zadok Jewelers store and the other by two, adjoining double-height restaurant spaces totaling just over 11,000 square feet with patios.

Protecting guests from the elements and creating a grand arrival, the arcade will incorporate retail entrances, valet pick up and drop off (self-parking will also be available), plus a concierge lobby for three floors and 68,000 square feet of boutique offices overhead. With parking levels even with their respective office floors, tenants and their visitors will enjoy the convenience of driving directly to their destination.

“This project reflects the history and traditions of the [Zadok] brand itself, and the design seeks to capture that timelessness. Our goal has been to elevate a traditional retail experience by invoking an arrival – either by car or foot – of hospitality and positive energy.  Care was taken to define spaces by staggering entry points for the ground floor storefronts and utilizing different materials for each exterior. This not only adds texture and visual appeal, but also breaks up the mass to make it more interesting and approachable,” said Michael Hsu Office of Architecture Partner, Jay Colombo, AIA.

Zadok Jewelers will be clad in native Texas cut stone, while brick in varying colors was chosen for the restaurant spaces and a sleek glass curtain wall for the office levels above.

The new Zadok Jewelers will nearly double the size of the current store.
